5 Ways To Make Vegan Friends (Whilst Travelling)

Making vegan friends can be hard whilst travelling. Okay making friends can be hard full stop, now that no one arranges play dates for us anymore (right)? Making friends whilst travelling can be even harder and making vegan friends can sometimes seem impossible.

But it's so important to have vegan friends to go out for dinner with or to simply share the struggles and triumphs with. And it's not just for vegans, I recommend everyone find at least one vegan friend :D (we're great I promise)

Here are 5 ways to make vegan friends whilst travelling (but you can do all of them at home too :) )

1. Go on an Animal Rights March

Going on a Animal Rights March is a great first step to making vegan friends, and you know what? They hold them all across the world. Turn up (preferably with a sign, but don't worry if you don't have one); and march alongside fellow animal friendly people.

One of the hardest things about being vegan is feeling like you're not making any difference (will it really make any difference at all to the animals if you stop eating meat and dairy?) If you feel like this I highly recommend going on a vegan friendly march - you'll see you're not the only one and feel like you're doing something.

Plus there is the added bonus of making friends with like-minded people.

2. Take part in a local Earthlings Experience / Anonymous for the Voiceless Cube

Similar to an animal rights march, but with the added advantage of them being more frequent, are the Earthlings Experiences or the Anonymous for the Voiceless Cubes. The premise is simple: stand together in a cube and help spread the word - people often hold up laptops and tablets which are playing scenes from the Earthlings film.

Again these are held all across the world, well at least across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand anyway. Search 'Earthlings Experience' + your location on Facebook or simply message Anonymous For The Voiceless they're really great about helping you find your nearest group or even helping you set up one.

3. Find vegans on Social Media

Social Media is a great place to find vegans on the go. Facebook groups like Vegan Travel or Vegan Women Who Travel are great places to start. Simply write a comment in the group saying where you'll be travelling to and ask if anyone else will be travelling or even living there.

Instagram is great too, search for hashtags like #veganinbudapest (or where ever you'll be travelling to) and connect with those people! That's how I found vegans in Budapest.

4. Find the Vegan bloggers

Bloggers come in two categories: really eager to meet up or really not. Follow your favourite vegan bloggers and if you're ever in the same location as them, reach out to them via email or on social media to see if they fancy grabbing a bite or seeing the sites.

(Btw I'm of the former category, if we're in the same city reach out to me on Facebook or Instagram and let's hang out!)

5. Go to Vegan Restaurants

Last but certainly not least, vegan restaurants! Use the Happy Cow app to find vegan restaurants whilst travelling, and whilst you're there make some friends - talk to people whilst you're waiting for a table, or on the table next to you, you already have so much in common!

Conclusion
So there you have it, 5 ways to make vegan friends whilst travelling (or at home). I hope this has been helpful, let me know!
