A Whistle-Stop Tour Through the Best Destinations for Vegan Foodies

Travelling as a vegan can be difficult because, unfortunately, you aren’t always able to find good food options that cater to your needs (though luckily fruit and vegetables are a near world-wide phenomena). Salad and chips tend to be the default for the most part. Finding destinations as a foodie and a vegan can feel like an impossible task at times. It's not though, which is why we have put together the following vegan-friendly list of destinations that are a must for foodies.

#1. Bali

Bali is an increasingly popular spot for vegan foodies. A lot of places ensure to accommodate for your tastes, with tempeh being the substitution of choice. Ubud is perhaps the best town to visit on your travels, although places like Canggu and Uluwatu are also great too. Bali is obviously pretty tropical, which can make for a great holiday too.

#2. Melbourne

Melbourne has received a number of accolades celebrating its vegan cuisine, so it makes sense for it to make this list. Melbourne arguably has the best of both worlds, being a vibrant city as well as enjoying all the same aspects of beach culture as other locations.

It is even home to several cool vegan food festivals throughout the year too. Melbourne has some of the best vegan coffee shops around, although, with the right coffee-making machine, you can have this at home too.

#3. Berlin

Germany has a high vegan population, so Berlin as a destination for vegan foodies makes a lot of sense. There is so much choice here; with hundreds of vegan and veggie eateries to choose from, you will be positively spoilt. Berlin is much more Urban, which would make it a great location for those who love city breaks.

#4. Barcelona

We wrote about being vegan in Madrid previously... in a similar vein, Barcelona also manages to marry beach culture with the hustle and bustle of a city too. Barcelona also boasts some stunning cultural tourist opportunities too, including galleries, museums and cathedrals.

It is also one of the best vegan destinations in Spain, with several locally renowned restaurants and eateries to try out.

#5. Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is truly a haven; between the stunning ancient temples and the breathtaking mountainous landscape, visiting feels heavenly. The street food markets are huge and bustling with many vegan options to choose from too. If you are going to head out to the markets, making friends with the locals is a must; they can give you the lowdown on the best places to go.

#6. New York

New York is a bustling metropolis with its finger on the plus. With veganism on the rise, it is any wonder that New York would have a number of places and food options which cater to this?

There are thousands of places dotted all over the city. The food itself also ranges from comfort food to innovative new products too.

#7. London

The final entry on the list is London, for similar reasons to New York. The UK capital offers a lot in the way of vegan cuisine. Not to mention the fact that it is also steeped in history and cool tourist destinations. London also held the title of the most vegan-friendly city.

Wrap Up: The Best Destinations for Vegan Foodies

This list is by no means exhaustive. But it does offer a great starting point when planning your next holiday. In addition to ensuring that they all cater for vegan foodies, there is a good mix of the different types of vacation, too, from city breaks to beachy breaks and everything in between.
